The ZZR Concept

Power balanced with controllability

Looking at the ZZR1400’s abundantly powerful 1,352cm3 engine and compact aluminium monocoque chassis, it would be easy to assume that it was designed solely for high performance. But Kawasaki’s newest flagship is so much more: incredible engine power balanced with superb controllability; reassuring big-bike stability yet light, responsive handling. This carefully calculated combination results in a bike that allows riders of all levels to experience the sheer excitement that motorcycles have to offer — a quality that has traditionally been a hallmark of the ZZR Series. The machines that best express Kawasaki’s DNA have always been more than just fast, ZZRs past and present are also incredibly fun to ride.

“I believe we have succeeded in creating a bike whose performance can be enjoyed by all riders,” says the project’s leader. “Not only the rush of acceleration offered by the powerful engine, but also the pleasure that comes from controlling a big-bore machine. It’s this duality that is so important. Creating a machine with lots of power or quick handling is easy enough. So is building a stable sports touring platform. But neither by itself would be a ZZR. Our ultimate goal for the ZZR1400 was a 200PS, 215kg motorcycle that offered high controllability and was also really fun to ride.”
