Engine Design

Largest displacement sports bike engine

To ensure that the new ZZR1400 would be the undisputed open class king, a completely new liquid-cooled In-line Four engine was designed. At 1,352cm³, this is the largest displacement sports bike engine that Kawasaki has ever produced, and the impressive power unit delivers all the performance riders expect of a machine of this caliber.

“Usually, when we develop a new model we first establish the model’s character,” says the project’s leader. “For the ZZR1400 this was very simple: it had to have the best power and the best controllability in its category. We were determined not to make any compromises in order to achieve these goals. We were determined that the bike have the distinctive character that riders expect of machines bearing the Kawasaki ZZR name.”
